Horrockses X Joanie Clothing
The highly anticipated collaboration between Horrockses Fashions x Joanie Clothing has finally arrived, and last night we had the pleasure of hosting the official launch event at one of Manchester’s finest venues, the International Anthony Burgess Foundation.
In celebration of the collaboration between the history-defining North West fashion house and rising star of the sustainable-yet-affordable clothing market, Joanie Clothing, we invited a variety of guests, from local creatives to select press, fashion tastemakers and digital creators, who were given the exclusive first-look of the brand-new collection.
We were absolutely thrilled with the overwhelmingly positive reaction from attendees who were highly complementary of the range, deservingly so!
All 10 show-stopping dresses – which feature some of the most kitsch and interesting Horrockses prints, painstakingly reproduced by Joanie’s female-led design team to replicate the look and feel of original vintage Horrockses dresses – were presented within our exclusive Horrockses Fashions exhibit, which took centre stage at the launch.
Guests were given the opportunity to soak up the inspiration behind each piece, as the exhibition illustrated how each dress was developed, detailing the history behind the unique, stylish Horrockses prints. First launched in the 1940s, Horrockses original collections, known for their high-quality fabrics and vibrant, playful prints, were worn by various members of the royal family and notable film stars. The exhibition featured historical images of timeless figures wearing the prestigious dresses, including Joan Collins, Princess Margaret, and HRH Queen Elizabeth II, who selected several dresses for her Royal Tour of the Commonwealth.
We were delighted to welcome original Horrockses designer Wendy Simpson and author of Horrockses Fashions:Off-the-Peg Style in the ’40s and ’50s, design historian Dr. Christine Boydell to the event. Wendy was able to give attendees a real insight into working with the esteemed label, expressing how excited she was to see her designs featured all over the world.
Guests who attended the launch modelling one of the exclusive dresses from the new collection were given the opportunity to have their portrait drawn by ultra-talented illustrator Jess Williams. Attendees were also entertained throughout the event as the brilliant pianist Liam Morson provided live musical entertainment.
Daytime guests were also treated to afternoon tea, courtesy of Prestwich’s finest Italian cafe Lupo, and the feel-good atmosphere from the afternoon continued through into the evening, as attendees enjoyed our spring-themed gin bar and delectable canapés.
The event has generated brilliant support from press, with features so far from the likes of Manchester’s Finest, Fashion Monitor and About Manchester and a Facebook live with the Manchester Evening News’ Dianne Bourne, with much more to come.
We also welcomed North West Tonight down to preview the event, who filmed an exclusive segment, in which Joanie Clothing brand director Lucy Gledhill and original Horrockses designer Wendy Simpson spoke with BBC reporter Kelly Foran, and appeared on the Evening News and across all of their digital platforms.
The influencers in attendance shared some lovely content across their social channels during and after the event, including these fab IG reels from Bethany Cookson and Bethany Jane Davies this IG post from Yana Prendergast.

Queen legend Brian May makes acting debut
We have been keeping a huge secret for our brilliant new client Andy and the Odd Socks, but the news is finally out! Queen legend Brian May is making his acting debut in the brand new series of Andy the Band, which will land on CBBC and iPlayer from 24th January.
The New Year has been an absolute whirlwind of activity over a Sundae HQ, and it’s safe to say we hit the ground running orchestrating this out of this world announcement alongside Brian May’s brilliant team, Odd Socks HQ and of course our friends at the BBC.
We’ve been honoured to join the team, as Andy and the Band features a band like no other. The Odd Socks can sing, they can play instruments, and they can completely ‘rock out’ until all their hair stands on end. Famously making their live debut at Glastonbury, Andy the Odd Socks also share a very important message as being an Odd Sock means digging your differences, bigging-up your bizarre bits, taking on the world AND helping everyone else in the world be whatever kind of Odd Sock they want to be too.
Rockstar royalty Brian, stars as the Godfather of Rock in brand new episode Planet Rock and even joins Andy and his band the Odd Socks for the ‘best jam ever’ while also helping them overcome a global ‘rocktastrophe’! The single, Planet Rock, by Andy and the Odd Socks featuring Brian May will be released on 18th February.
As anticipated, the response to the announcement was huge, and the story and accompanying interview were picked up by the Sun Online, Mail Online, Daily Star, Mirror Online, Metro, Independent, the NME, Planet Rock and uDiscover Music, plus hundreds of other titles across the UK and beyond, many of which shared a clip of the Planet Rock music video, creating huge excitement for both the series and upcoming single release.
Brian also did an exclusive interview with the Express Online, where he gave further insight into why he wanted to be in the show and what working with the Odd Socks means to him.
Meanwhile, children’s TV legend Andy Day, was in his element undertaking a series of interviews we placed with the likes of Fun Kids Radio, First News and Kidzcoolit, ensuring that parents, and children across the UK were all ready to tune in to Planet Rock, and find their own air guitar.
Now the planet is ready to rock, our work here is done and we’re going to sit back and enjoy the show x

Launching Low Four Studio
This week, our good friends at online music TV platform Low Four launched a new recording studio and venue on Deansgate Mews at Great Northern Warehouse, with a bar from Cloudwater; we are proud to be an official supporter of the studio and have loved looking after the communications campaign for the announcement.
Low Four officially opened with a live streamed show from Manchester electro-punk-rockers W.H.Lung (no relation) which was incredibly well attended and an amazing night was had by all; after such a long time, it was refreshing to see live music in such an intimate venue, and inspiring to see a forward thinking, innovative studio emerge from the pandemic and set off on a new journey.
The studio released a preview session with Francis Lung, recorded this summer, featuring six tracks from his second album ‘Miracle’ released by Memphis Industries earlier this year, as part of the launch.
Low Four produces high quality, live-streamed and pre-recorded content to spotlight Manchester, supporting its international reputation for music and culture, by showcasing exceptional emerging local talent alongside nationally and internationally recognised touring acts.
Originally launched in 2016, Low Four’s first home was the old recording and dubbing suite at the old Granada Studios site on Quay St until redevelopment began. On Deansgate Mews, they will be joining a growing community of new artisan businesses that include Holy Grain Bakery, The Butcher’s Quarter, Dormouse Chocolate, Three Hands Deli and Another Hand Restaurant.
Previously, Low Four has worked with a vast array of acts, including live streaming performances from the likes of Everything Everything, Alexis Taylor, This is the Kit, Mew and Poliça; recorded albums for GoGo Penguin, Dutch Uncles and Francis Lung, and collaborated with organisations from the Hallé Orchestra to Manchester Science Festival.
The studio will resume its talent development scheme which includes free studio and production development time awarded to Manchester’s most promising artists. Alongside musical talent, the project will also nurture technical skills, most notably through its partnership with the University of Salford, functioning as a teaching and research hub.
The launch was given some lovely support in the press with coverage appearing in Total Production International, Manchester Wire, Confidentials and About Manchester to name a few.
We have been waiting for a studio like this to open in the city centre and we cannot wait to work with the lovely team at Low Four in the future, watch this space!
Say hello to The LINK: Stockton Globe’s little sibling
We’ve been so excited to launch ‘Live at The LINK’ for Ambassador Theatre Group’s (ATG) Stockton Globe. It’s a programme designed to support local and emerging artists at the Globe’s little sibling venue, The LINK, and, after months of planning, our carefully curated hybrid launch event happened last week.
The event welcomed a studio audience full of Stockton based businesses, venue owners and press, and also streamed live from the venue via the Stockton Globe website and Facebook page to event promoters, journalists from further afield and the general public. We worked hard with our friends at the brilliant Low Four Studios to ensure a seamless link between IRL and digital.
On hosting duties we had the amazing Rianne Thompson (BBC Music Introducing) and the event featured live performances and exclusive chats with local singer songwriters Luke Royalty and Jodie Nicholson, and hip-hop artist Shakk, as well as an insightful ‘in conversation’ with General Manager Jo Ager about the future of the venue and the programme.
The LINK is a multi-functional space which will operate as a café, bar and live entertainment venue in its own right. The 200-capacity venue will support local and emerging artists with the Live at The LINK programme, adding to the vibrant live entertainment scene in Teesside. During the day, visitors will be able to enjoy coffee, cake and a light food menu before the transformation into a live gig space.
In the future, The LINK will host a variety of events for the people of Stockton and beyond, with diverse grassroot gigs, listening parties, pre-parties and afterparties all being worked into its schedule. The venue is also looking to work with local music event programming partners such as the Tees Music Alliance, NARC. and NE Volume, as well as BBC Music Introducing.
Both versions of the launch were incredibly well received, and we were honoured to get brilliant feedback across the board, while the media backed the project in a big way with coverage appearing in Total Production International, NE Volume, Darlington & Stockton Times, Teesside Live and NARC.
If you weren’t there, you missed a great night…. but you can catch it again here:
On Stage at Home with Clangers and Nordoff Robbins
This week we launched ‘On Stage at Home’ with the Clangers and music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.
Created at homes across Manchester over the last few weeks, the initiative is an interactive musical video series, featuring specially created songs and music for young families to perform whilst at home together during lockdown and beyond, using instruments they find or make.
Our aim was to demonstrate the positive impact that music can have on everyone’s health and wellbeing, and show you don’t need instruments to make music, whilst supporting an important charity and spreading a little Clangers joy.
This was a true labour of love, which started with the germ of an idea in the early days of lockdown, followed by some very quick thinking from some extremely talented people, the contactless delivery of a green screen we miraculously found in the attic, and an emergency run to the office to fetch our editor’s iMac.
We’d genuinely never met or even spoken to Nordoff Robbins before embarking on this project, and so we were astounded by their generosity of spirit and the faith they put in us to deliver something wonderful.
It transpired there was an amazing synergy between Clangers and Nordoff Robbins brand values. The Clangers were a perfect fit for the concept as their Little Blue Planet is filled with music and dancing, music trees and singing flowers grow there, and they often row out on their music boat to go fishing or visit the Iron Chicken.
They also find, and discover new uses for, unusual objects on their planet, so throughout the series, they help with tips and encourage families to create musical instruments and sounds from objects found in their homes, from sieves, to spices, wooden spoons, pots and pans and everything else in between.
On Stage at Home is produced by our long standing client and good friends, Coolabi Group, who own Clangers, and the creative team includes Didsbury based music therapist Louise Gregg, Clangers co-director Chris Tichborne (using footage originally animated by the wonderful team at Altrincham’s Factory, who we’ve worked with since Sundae launched), and edited, with additional animation, by husband’s design studio Instruct (whose HQ is currently based in our attic).
An extra special shout out goes to Josh at Instruct, whose dreams are now forever soundtracked by Let’s Go Finding Sounds, after hours and days spent editing this first film which formed the look and feel of the series.
It took a grand total of three weeks, to devise, create and launch the first two videos, working at breakneck speed, and setting seemingly impossible challenges for ourselves, including getting the Clangers and Eggbots to breakdance, and transporting Louise onto the surface of the Clangers Little Blue Planet, something we’d never done in the six years we’ve been working with our favourite pink space mice.
Sundae is supporting the creative process, and delivering outreach and publicity in partnership with the Nordoff Robbins team, including a nationwide press campaign, and support from celebrities and influencers across the country.
We couldn’t be more delighted with the reactions so far; the comments from parents have been incredibly positive, and we’ve had a huge swell of support from the press, including a segment on BBC Radio 5 Live with Nordoff Robbins CEO Sandra Schembri which you can listen to here at 16:46.
And we’re only just getting started, we’ll be releasing a new song each week, and we’re excited to see performances on stage at home from families across the UK, with a few famous faces getting on board to support.
So, as Louise would say, Let’s Go Finding Sounds!

Let’s Netflix and Party
Having worked from home for 4 years before joining the Sundae team, I’m no stranger to conference call catch ups, seeking advice over Whatsapp and never quite finding the most comfortable spot in my apartment to set up shop. The things you miss about being in an office are the little details, the ritual of brewing up alongside someone else, chatting about what everyone else is doing for lunch, and fundamentally for us, catching up on the previous night’s TV!
Now confined to our homes for the foreseeable, television and streaming services will play an important role in offering comfort and escapism on demand for so many people. Along with at home pub quizzes, virtual dance parties, and concert live streams, we’re seeing the Netflix Party Chrome Extension bring an innate social practice into the digital space.
Netflix Party synchronises video playback and adds a group chat to your favourite shows, so that your friends can react simultaneously to the twists and turns of that new true crime documentary, (we see you fellow Tiger King bingers). Imagine watching the next BBC drama and being able to debate theories while the episode is playing out; being able to prove your detective skills in guessing the culprit of a crime at the beginning of a series and winning the coveted bragging rights as the story unfolds.
The tool could even help to end the issue we constantly find ourselves facing in the world of online streaming, in that our friends are always one step ahead of or behind us in a new series. Perhaps, finally, truces can be made within friendship groups to watch that new series at the exact same pace, so as to truly enjoy each plot development in-sync. If there’s one thing I hate more than hearing a spoiler, it’s trying to convince someone to watch a brilliant new show while desperately trying not to let something slip and ruin it in the same breath.
For many, television is a natural shared interest, a topic of conversation it’s easy to connect over and hard to run out of things to say about, hence the success of the show Gogglebox. With online watch parties you can now create your own personal version of Gogglebox at home, on your respective sofas, with the people whose opinions you’re most interested in.
The act of staying in and watching TV on a Saturday night is becoming a whole lot more social, and we’re very much here for it! We’ll be having our own Sundae watch party next Monday for the first episode of Hollywood, just one of the new series’ coming out during lockdown that we can’t wait to watch and discuss.
Stay in, put the telly on and stay safe.

What are we watching in This Country, then?
Back in early 2017, a good friend of mine who grew up in a small village in the countryside recommended that I watch a new comedy on BBC Three because it was “bang on the money” as a representation of his “hilarious” formative years. That comedy was This Country.
I followed his instructions, as he is a very funny man himself, and it quickly became my favourite show; over the course of the last three years I have waited with baited breath for each new season to be announced and every new episode to be released weekly on iPlayer… generally watching the latest one multiple times whilst waiting for the next – it is that good.
Without giving too much away to those who haven’t seen it, This Country is a mockumentary that follows the lives of young people in modern rural Britain, namely the central characters, cousins Kerry and Kurtan and their lives in a village in the Cotswolds.
Across its three seasons, the show focuses on themes of social awkwardness, the trivialities of human behaviour and the endearing eccentricities of living in rural England as well as the boredom, total lack of professional opportunities and the social isolation of young people in small, remote communities.
Aside from being a truly genius comedy, it is extremely topical in the issues that it addresses and is a real conversation starter around the hot subject of opportunities for young people from different backgrounds in the UK… which is another reason why it is a Sundae top pick; we hold regionality, diversity and opportunity for young people at the heart of absolutely everything we do.
The show’s creators, brother and sister duo Charlie and Daisy May Cooper play the hilarious central characters while filling some of the other core roles with real life family and friends, giving them an opportunity to fulfil their massive potential that they may not have otherwise received. For us at Sundae, this secured our hearts as a forever home for the show as it proves that anything is possible, no matter where you are from or how old you are.
If you find yourself in a position with some spare time on your hands while in self isolation and need some full blown LOLs (alongside a few tears) to get you through, then this little beauty is a binger’s dreamboat.
I for one will be taking full advantage of the fact that the last ever episode was released yesterday evening, giving me carte blanche to hit every season nightly on a b2b basis… on a b2b basis.
Not only is This Country casually hilarious, heartbreaking and socially relevant in equal measures, it joins a stellar stable of shows that have broken out from the BBC Three production line, completing a Sundae endorsed top trio alongside the incredible People Just Do Nothing and Man Like Mobeen (both of which are also more than worth an isolation binge if you haven’t seen them).
At a time when this country needs us to stay inside, we definitely need This Country to help us do it.
Much love and stay safe.

Silent Lines….the UK tour that made us want more!
When our friends at Russell Maliphant Dance Company got in touch with us and offered us the opportunity to look after the 10 month comminications campaign for the UK national tour of its much anticipated new work, Silent Lines… we certainly didn’t need to be asked twice.
Over the course of 2019 we were tasked with organising the announcements of the work and the world premiere in April at DanceEast in Ipswich where RMCo is ‘Company in Residence’ on a national level and managing press activity for the entire tour on a regional level featuring dates in Nottingham, Newcastle, Guildford, Salford Quays, Wycombe, Birmingham, Taunton, Llanelli, Aberystwyth and Lancaster before organising press attendance for the final shows at Sadler’s Wells, London this weekend.
We planned the campaign down to the letter and worked really closely with the RMCo team and the press and marketing representatives of each venue within the tour to ensure that absolutely no stone was left unturned – this beautiful piece of work deserved maximum exposure and meticulous strategy.
Over the course of the campaign we placed have interview features in The Guardian, The Times, The Stage and The Wonderful World of Dance amongst others.
Further regional features included Creative Tourist, Quays Life, Sommerset County Gazette, Watford Observer, East Anglian Daily Times, BBC Radio Lancaster, Morecombe Visitor and Lancaster Evening Post to name a few.
Silent Lines, as a production, is something that we feel honoured too have worked on here at Sundae; the very energy of the piece and the visually rich and resonant connections between internal and external worlds is something that has inspired us throughout.
It has been an incredible experience; one that transcends dance and our own world of publicity as the media are so engaged with the innovative nature of the work and Russell Maliphant’s unequivocal genius levels that the campaign took a life of it’s own.
The Silent Lines UK national tour is a dance that we don’t want to end and as we look forward to Sadler’s Wells this weekend with a press list consisting of reviewers from The Telegraph, Financial Times, The Guardian, The Times, Evening Standard, Classical Source and Bachtrach plus many more we are filled with pride that when the curtain comes down we will have achieved the coverage that the production deserved.
Right now we are off to tie up the very last loose ends and prepare for the weekend… we cannot wait to read the reviews!

London Short Film Festival 2018
Following a successful campaign in 2017, Sundae returned to lead the press and publicity for the 15th annual London Short Film Festival in 2018. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, LSFF is a vital moment in the UK film calendar, a beacon of inclusive and ground-breaking film-making from a diverse range of backgrounds. The festival shows a huge selection of UK and international short films across music, culture, and politics.
As part of our strategy we created a bespoke publicity campaign based around the festival’s individual strands – Politics, Music, Culture, Brexit, BAME, LGBTQ, international, Industry and the With Teeth bi-annual commissioning award from LSFF supported by Arts Council England
With the programme boasting particularly strong and diverse content, something we’re extremely passionate about, and wanted to shine a bright light upon.
A key highlight was a legacy screening of pioneer of Black British cinema Ngozi Onwurah’s rare works, followed a panel discussion with Ngozi , producer Simon Onwurah, Hilja Lindsay-Muwonge (actress, Flight of the Swan) and Sian Ejiwumi-Le Berre (actress, The Body Beautiful).
Ngozi Onwurah was the first Black British woman to have a feature film released in UK cinemas (Welcome II The Terrordome,1995), and was of huge interest to the press with pick up from British Blacklist and Run Riot among many. Plus despite a tight schedule and LA time difference, we also secured an interview feature with Don’t Panic London, it’s an amazing, insightful piece and something we are incredibly proud to have been part of.
