This festive season, we have, once again, had the pleasure of working with the aspirational team at Carrot Productions, the world’s leading performer of The Snowman™ film with live orchestra, on their phenomenal UK tour.
As always, this beautiful work has achieved brilliant coverage, but this year they added something extra special – the world premiere of a major new screen-and-music project: an original animated film of Peter and the Wolf, specially commissioned from Georgian 2D animator and animation director Tsotne Rusishvili.
In the most ‘Carrot Productions’ move ever, they spent months of research and development exploring potential animation collaborators before selecting Tsotne for the commission. His combination of playful artistry, strong narrative instinct and an ability to synchronise imagery with music made him the standout choice to bring this project to life.
The result is a 19-minute hand-crafted, 2D animation designed expressly for live performance, its pacing and storytelling carefully aligned with the orchestral score.
The score has been created via a new orchestral arrangement by Daniel Whibley, Carrot’s resident arranger whose orchestrations underpin every Carrot production. His portfolio includes the BBC Philharmonic’s CBeebies Musical Storyland, The Musical Story of the Gingerbread Man (millions of iPlayer views), and the CBeebies Bedtime Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.
Daniel’s new treatment of Prokofiev’s music ensures that the score interlocks seamlessly with Tsotne’s animation, while maximising the expressive power of a live orchestra in concert halls and cathedrals nationwide.
We absolutely loved this new element to the tour, and the heart in the story behind them finding and commissioning Tsotne, so we put together a strategy to publicise this within trade publications on a regional, national, and global scale.
The quality of the story was undeniable and we placed high quality coverage on Prolific North, Animation Magazine, Animation For Adults, Licensing Biz, and License Global.
Working with Carrot Productions is a joy; they do such incredible things and we have the privilege of telling their stories – this one, in particular, summed them up perfectly, and resulted in Tsotne’s gorgeous work being visible to industry figures and animation enthusiasts around the world.
