Two things we love at Sundae? Strong women and breaking the mould. So teaming up with award-winning author Sophie Gravia on her latest release was a no-brainer.
Best known for her brutally honest, hilarious and empowering RomComs, Sophie has become a literary phenomenon and relationship confidante to many. Her latest book has already lit up the group chats.
An NHS nurse by the day, Sophie has never shied away from the messy realities of modern relationships. In fact, it was exactly that type of candid conversation that launched her career as a published author. She set off with the cult-hit blog Sex in the Glasgow City, before self-publishing her debut novel – which catapulted her to overnight success.
Fast forward to today: with over a quarter of a million books sold, Sophie introduced her latest title, The Dicktionary Club, which quickly shot straight into the Top 20 Sunday Times Bestsellers and reached #21 in The Bookseller Top 50. It sparked a national conversation about the chaos of modern dating – and we jumped right into it!
Inspired by the viral ‘Are We Dating the Same Guy’ online communities, The Dicktionary Club follows the (mis)adventures of three Glaswegian women on a mission to uncover Scotland’s biggest dating red flags. Packed with humour and poignant relatability, the novel taps into the cultural zeitgeist of a dating scene many young women know all too well – and have confided about directly with Sophie.
While her writing is fictional, Sophie’s stories are grounded in real-life dating disasters – recounted by friends, fans, and colleagues over wine, in the group chat, or those 2AM DMs. Sophie is more than just a bestselling author – she’s a cultural commentator and literary confidante to women all over. Her mission? To remind young women that they are not the problem – dating is, and we’re all in this together.
Much like her character, Sophie’s work builds a community of solidarity, shared experience and humour that women everywhere relate (and contribute) to.
Sophie took the conversation even further with her newly-launched – and now award-nominated – BBC Sounds podcast Situationships with Sophie and Christine. Co-hosted with fellow bestselling author and TV personality Christine McGuiness, the podcast dives into anonymously submitted dating dilemmas with the paid offering judgement free-advice, making for the perfect girl talk.
We worked with Sophie’s publisher Bonnier Books and the team at BBC Sounds to deliver an extensive campaign. Sophie and Christine joined the iconic Loose Women panel, and Sophie guested on The Jeremy Vine Show. She also graced the front page of BBC News Online with one of the most-read stories of the day, and was featured in The Times, The Express, The Sun, MailOnline, The Guardian and The Scotsman Magazine front page cover, amongst many others.
We can’t wait to see what’s in store next, but until then…
